Post subject:  Shields from Renegade Legion: Leviathan

I'm trying to figure out how to do defenses for ships from Renegade Legion: Leviathan. Armor is fairly straightforward: it's ablative, so you just do shields with no regenerators. Shields in Leviathan, though, give a to-hit modifier and are directional. A battleship with Shield 5 causes a -5 modifier to d10 to-hit rolls against it. A destroyer with Shield 2 is only a -2 modifier. Most ships have pretty much the same shields all around, but some are weaker on the rear flanks, in particular. You can't knock down shields in RL, except by destroying the generators.

One last complication: Spinal Mounts (coilguns) ignore shields completely.

The simplest approach seems to be treat shields as ECM, but ECM doesn't quite go high enough to give the desired effect. I also don't see a way to make spinal mounts ignore ECM (shields). Oh, there's a minor thing with shields reducing the effect of missile attacks instead of deflecting them completely, but I think that can be taken care up through a high RoF for the missile systems.

Any thoughts on getting this to work?
